About Background Image

My research deals with the evaluation of aging mechanism and effects of various additives on performance of asphaltic materials. Through accomplishing my research, my expertise has been expanded to multi-scale (i.e., nano- to mixture-scale) and multi-aspect (i.e., physical, mechanical, and chemical) characterization of asphaltic materials so that the effects of old asphalt recycling and the rejuvenation/modification process on overall properties of asphalt binders/mixtures and performance of pavement structures can be identified with more scientific rigors.

I have been most fortunate in my academic career to have had ample opportunity both to teach and to do research. As an instructor, I have been afforded a great deal of experience with a wide range of courses, including: Materials of Construction and Pavement Design and Evaluation. The anonymous reviews by my students have been consistently laudatory, citing my knowledge, teaching style, and enthusiasm as highlights of the courses. I am committed to working with my students and have maintained professional relationships with many of them years beyond the classroom.
